I hear this is the place where I get to sell myself. Well, let's see. I'm from Albuquerque, NM, earned a Bachelors in Creative Writing and Studio Art from the University of New Mexico, with a year exchange at Portland State University. Early years of my career were spent designing logos and marketing material for dozens of locally owned businesses in my hometown. I've also designed for a few publishing companies in Southern California.
But I got tired of being in front of a computer all the time. I wanted to get up and move about the cabin so to speak, so I started to travel. This led me on a trip around the world, and after a while the spirit of the Camino de Santiago snuck into me.
I grabbed a backpack and a change of clothes and trekked 303 miles across Spain. When I returned home, I decided that I wanted to be an artist. Not a graphic designer, but someone who tears things up and puts them back together.
My mom flipped. After all, I had just been awarded a Key to the City from Mayor Martin Chavez for efforts in the revitalization of Downtown Albuquerque, creating civic spaces, and co-founding the Albuquerque Independent Business Alliance, a 501c3 aimed at educating the public on the benefits of shopping local. Well, I wanted to be as local as it gets and make the things that I sell. There was and is so much creativity inside me that wants and deserves to come out.
I'm inspired by the idea that "thoughts become things," so I tend to think big. I've done art for MTV, participated at Parallax Art Fair international show in London, was awarded a gallery space at 505 Central from Mayor Tim Keller, have travelled to 30 countries by putting 40 bucks into a coffee can each week, have been the poster artist for La Cosecha International Dual Language Conference as well as Lavender Festival, currently sell my cards and prints in 20 locations regionally, I've jumped off the tallest building in the southern hemisphere of the world, and I have two super cute dogs. : )
The way I see it, the outer world is a reflection of the inner. If we surround ourselves with big ideas, positive words, powerful images, supportive people and an environment that soothes and fuels us, we will naturally live in a reality that is bigger than ourselves. Therefore, my work is created as a vibrant symbol of our greater potential. Thank you so much to all who keep the arts alive. It's the greatest joy of my life to help you shape your world.
